Dean Musani is an award winning composer, songwriter, producer, sound designer, DJ, curator, and educator.  Since 1998 he has been known as much for his lively performances under his stage name Phatcat, as his tireless work behind the scenes of Canada's electronic music community.

Founding the Future Roots collective in 2005, he has been instrumental in enriching Canada's arts landscape, hosting hundreds of risk taking artists and releasing groundbreaking music through his label at FutureRootsRecords.com

Honoured with an Sterling Award in 2015 for his original score to “Bears” he’s consistently expanded his musical scope into more and more experimental work.

In 2017 he presented “UnNaturale - an exploration of the body and soul of natural spaces through

sound and music” an Edmonoton Arts Council supported work which allowed him to use field recordings of strictly local natural spaces with hardware samplers to explore themes that have become very important in his work, primarily those of spacial identity and the natural world contrasted against technology in both a positive/negative light.

Much of current work focuses on the Modular Synth - the instrument that kickstarted the Electronic creation of music.  Focusing on the immediacy of creation working with these instruments requires a totally different approach to the current trend of software based music making which has led him down a rabbit hole of possibility over the past few years.

He is currently finishing a full length LP created, performed, and recorded entirely live on his Modular.
